April 12th 2008 - Cheryl Butkus Of Minocqua
I would like to nominate Cheryl Butkus of Minocqua for this special award. If there is a person deserving of some special recognition, it would be Cheryl. Cheryl works part time at the timber Ridge restaurant and fills in at the red Steer when called in. She is always willing to help out her employer in their time of need for extra staff. But, even more so than that, Cheryl has been a "silent" but active part of the Minocqua community for several years. She has worked with the Backpack program filling and distributing the children's backpacks so they have some of the necessary tools to begin the school year with. She has worked for the Lakeland Food pantry organizing and distributing food to those less privileged. She has actively sought out donations from businesses in the community to help those that need help.Aside from these undertakings, Cheryl is a mother of 3 very active young, school-aged children. She helps out at school as a room mom and chaperone for field trips. She makes sure that if someone needs a ride to school for whatever reason, she gives it to them. She has an open door policy at her house and always has children playing and spending the night at it. If a neighbor or relative needs help, she is there without question. In conclusion, Cheryl is a very deserving member of our community and should be recognized with at least flowers and whatever other prizes can be awarded!!!

April 5th 2008 - Ed Kairis Member of the New Tom Snow Fleas
I would like to nominate for the "Make Your Day" award Ed Kairis who is a member of the New Tom Snow Fleas. Myself being a member of this snowmobile club I know Ed has been a member for many years and in those years has donated, as a volunteer, countless hours of service. During the snow season when trails are open, in particular this season, Ed grooms every night to ensure that the trails are at their best. This can be testified by the clubs members and guests, as well as the DNR who has awarded the New Tom Snow Fleas as having the best trails in the state for three years. When the snowmobile season is over, it is not for Ed. In the summer and fall his work continues. When a trail needs to be rerouted possibly due to an easement loss, Ed hikes into the woods, for several miles from a road if needed, to see where he can route a new trail. He also checks the existing trails for brush and tree overgrowth and to ensure any rocks protruding that were not there the year before are removed. He uses his own Bobcat, chainsaw, and other equipment to make the new trails and improve the old ones. In addition he also maintains the clubs equipment. Ed has never asked for anything for his time and never seeks recognition. I think for one day he deserves to have his day made.

April 28th 2008 - Beth Hayner Land O' Lakes Elementary School
![]() |
I would like to nominate Beth Hayner, the office secretary at the Land O' Lakes Elementary School for employee of the month. She is always so helpful....not only to the principal and teaching staff, but the supporting staff as well. She's always helping me, the lunch lady, with all my questions about the computer and how to do things on it; even though it's not part of her job. She also helps the PTA out tremendously, even though her "child" is now 19 years old. I know she loves fresh flowers, and I would love to brighten her day, because she brightens the day of lot of people just doing her job.

April 21st 2008 - Sue Mlaker Northland Pines Elementary School Three Lakes |
![]() |
I would like to nominate Mrs. Sue Mlaker to receive the Trig's bouquet for the month of March or April. I am a Title I teacher at Northland Pines Elementary School in Eagle River, and Sue works closely with me as a paraprofessional (teacher's aide). But Sue is more than just valuable to me...she is a major asset to our entire school community. Sue is first of all a very sunny person---always in a good mood and ready to spread her good humor around. She has a ready smile for everyone, students and staff alike. Sue NEVER gets involved in petty gossip; always looking at the bright side of every situation and, without judgment, can gently steer other people away from potential negative behavior such as complaining or gossiping. Our principal, Mr. Duane Frey, has commented to me that Sue is "the perfect employee". Whenever there is a need elsewhere in the building, such as subbing for a fifth grade class when the regular teacher suddenly has to go home to a sick child, or taking an extra (dreaded) recess duty when someone needs to attend a meeting, Sue is always there to volunteer or uncomplainingly take direction to fill in. Sue performs many duties in the course of the day, from clerical, to working with individual children, to helping out in a first grade classroom, keeping many needy children on track. Her rapport with children is wonderful. On a personal level, Sue stepped in and used her counseling skills (she is a trained and licensed therapist) when I was going through a very sad divorce, and she never accepted any money from me. It's Sue's goal to someday become a teacher herself, and now, in her midlife, she is working toward that goal by taking night and weekend courses. Please consider our Sue to be blessed with a bouquet of flowers. I don't know a more deserving person.

\April 7th 2008 - Rachel Piencikowski Allied Chiropractic & Lakeland Assembly of God
Rachel works the reception desk for Dr Gonzalez at the Allied Health Chiropractor office, and she is the Office and Ministries Assistant for the Lakeland Assembly Church on County J. Rachel is always friendly and willing to take extra steps to accommodate others needs whether they are at the Chiropractor or Church. Rachel heads up the social snacks & beverage table at church every Sunday and she is very involved in the Children's activities several times a week. She always makes one feel welcome and is a person you can depend on for big important matters or little odds and ends. She provides a good service to many others, and for that she deserves a little something special for her kindness.

March 31st 2008 - Deb Hansen LUHS Special Education/ Student Services Secretary. |
![]() |
She is always going the extra distance for our students, informing them of scholarship details/deadlines for the application process, sets up times for various colleges who are on the recruitment for next years incoming freshman. She gathers data for students, counselors, teachers, and parents whenever this service is needed. She adjusts scheduling of classes for students if requested and is a great help to all new personnel in Student Services, without her I as a new employee would be lost if not for her assistance. She is a special friend to the students who all feel comfortable around her, always at work with a smile and extra treats for students who may need a quick pick-up or just a little something extra. A very valuable employee and a caring individual who provides a special service to our students at a level that is exemplary of the highest standard, for all the students of LUHS, who are our future, she acknowledges and informs students that Education is vital for their success and their future.

February: 2008 - Rosy Richter DNR Service Center in Woodruff |
She is the most pleasant and helpful person, dealing with many people under all sorts of circumstances. Often times customers at the front desk are confused or unhappy about something and she always takes care of the problem at hand with a friendly attitude and a smile. As a co-worker she is also always helpful and caring as well. She knows just when you need a hug or a handful of m&m's and just today she carried a large heavy box out to my vehicle for me because I had recently had a surgery and shouldn't lift that much yet. She's a wonderful person and definitely deserves a bouquet! |
